Richard Oakland "Dickie" Glover, Jr.
Richard Oakland "Dickie" Glover, Jr., 68, died at his home Friday, November 29, 2019.
Dickie was born, May 8, 1951, in Halifax County, son to Richard Oakland Glover, Sr., who is deceased, and Mildred Jenkins Glover. When he was young, Dickie attended the North Carolina School for the Deaf in Morganton, NC. During that time, he also became an Eagle Scout. After attending the North Carolina School for the Deaf, Dickie attended Gallaudet College in Washington, DC. Once returning back to Eastern North Carolina, Dickie worked in Winston Salem with the Lion's Club Industry for a number of years. He also worked with an Arts Theatre for a short time. He later went to work for the Eastern North Carolina School for the Deaf located in Wilson, NC where he retired after 23 years. While with the Eastern North Carolina School for the Deaf, he was well known and taught many students and also founded the Eastern North Carolina School for the Deaf (ENCSD) Cloggers. After retirement at ENCSD, he worked as a Service Support Provider (SSP) with the deaf/blind with the state for 16 years. In addition to his father, Dickie was preceded in death by his sister, Cynthia Louise Glover.
Surviving are his longtime partner, Scott R. Swicegood of the home and his mother, Mildred Jenkins Glover.
The family will have a service to remember Dickie's life Saturday, December 7, 2019, at 1:00 pm in the chapel at Askew Funeral Service- Jackson Chapel, Jackson, NC.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial donations be made in Dickie's name to: North Carolina Deaf Blind Association, NCDBA, 1555 New Garden Rd, Apt. 1-E, Greensboro, NC 27410.
